WebCumberland ordered up his band of Horses (units) and massacred the Scots on the left flank. With a few followers and part of the Fitzjames Horse, Charles Stuart escaped from the field. The battle was over but Cumberland’s own men gave no quarter and few escaped. The wounded Scots were shot and many of the British were sickened by such brutality.
